Ron Gold,

Lead Pastor

Though raised in a Jewish family, Pastor Ron Gold first heard the gospel his second week in college. He was drawn to the message of God's love revealed in His Son and on September 9th, 1977 received the Lord Jesus as his Savior and Lord. Ron was called by God to the ministry and began a period of preparation that would include four academic degrees, internships and eventually ordination to the gospel ministry in 1988. Following this, he went to the 1987 Urbana Missions conference and met Maryann. They developed their relationship long distance over a 17 month period and they were married in August 1989.

Three weeks later, in September of 1989, Pastor Ron began his seminary training. After a six month teaching assignment where he taught beginning Hebrew in seminary, he served his first pastorate for 10 years in a Baptist church in New Hampshire. During those ten years, both of Pastor Ron & Maryann's children, Rebecca & Joshua were born. Pastor Ron served in an Evangelical Free Church in Colorado before coming to Hillside Baptist Church in the fall of 2008.

Brian Greene,

Brian survived life on the Spirit Lake Indian Reservation in ND and desired nothing more than to leave and see the world. In 1982, one month before starting on that journey by joining the Navy, he met his future wife, Ruth. She introduced him to Christ, Brian accepted him as his Savior, and today he praises God for sending Ruth into his life with that message. Brian served 11 years in the Navy, 10 while married to Ruth.

Following his time in the Navy, Brian and family moved to Ruth's hometown of Dickinson, their home since 1994. Brian is a driver for UPS. He and Ruth have been members of Hillside since 1995. Brian has served in a variety of ministry positions during that time. Besides loving and serving the Lord, Brian loves history—and given the chance—will talk you ear off. They have two adult sons, Alex, born in San Diego, and Aric, born in Virginia Beach. Both live in the Minneapolis area.

Matt Herron,

Youth pastor

Matt was raised in southeastern South Dakota by Christian parents who loved him and raised him up to serve and love Jesus.  That planted a foundation for his call into youth ministry.  Matt received his BS in Youth Ministry from Grace University (Omaha).  He served for 3 years as a youth pastor in Omaha before coming to Hillside (January 2014).

Matt’s passion is to see students not only give their lives to Jesus, but also to love and serve the body of Christ, becoming men and women faithful to the calling of Jesus Christ.  Outside of youth ministry, Matt loves spending time with his wife, Leah, their two sons, Caiden and Jacek, and their brand new girl, Blakeley (February 2, 2016)—and any pick up game of baseball, football, or soccer he can join in on.

Dave Miller,

Elder/lay pastor

I came to know the Lord in my teens; however, when I joined the Air Force I attended an NAB church where Pastor Willis Potratz became my mentor. He taught me the Scriptures, helping me to understand that I am alive in Christ. I served in the base chapel through my military career (22 years). I also worked with State Farm Insurance for 26 years. I have served Hillisde for 40 years and am open to serve where ever he leads.

My wife, Eileen, and I have three children, nine grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Through the years we have praised God for all his blessings, and he has kept us on our knees as he has seen us through many struggles. God is good!

Jeff Morton,

pastor of Discipleship

I was born in Oklahoma, but raised in California—where I accepted the Lord and was baptized (1962)—and I've worked among Muslims in Liberia and Guinea. I've taught in Thailand, Brazil, Pakistan—and California (Biola University). I'm excited God called us to serve at Hillside (November 2012). Debbie, a registered nurse and baker-of-goodness-in-every-loaf-of-her-bread, is my wife and our goal is to disciple believers in growing obedience to Jesus. I graduated from Vanguard University (B.A.), Talbot Seminary (MDiv.) and Biola University (DMiss). I really like sailing, shooting, carpentry, reading (especially Louie L’Amour) and spending time with our four adult children and six grandchildren.

Erv Vanveldhuizen,

elder/lay pastor

Erwin first trusted in Jesus when he as 10; however, his willingness to be a person with a desire to be more like Christ didn't take hold until the family moved to Dickinson. It was at that time he made a commitment to be a person that desired to emulate Christ.

Erwin and Marty were married in May of 1973 and have two children, Troy and Rachel. After 40 years of teaching public school Erwin retired. He enjoys being of serice to others. His desire is to see what God is at work and to join him there. Love God, love others, and serve the world.

Sunday School Superintendent,
