Rob Grunden,

elder/lay pastor

Rob is a southern Indiana transplant to North Dakota. He was raised to love Jesus but drifted away in his late teenage years for a time. To him, the love of Jesus had been a thing to be earned. Thankfully, Jesus lifted that veil of false gospel away from his eyes and showed him just what this “Good News” really was.

Rob is married to Donna and they have two rambunctious disciples to train, Dallas (2009) and Wyatt (2011).

Rob has been a North Dakota resident since 2004. He spent some time in full-time ministry, the oil field, 4 years in the U.S. Marine Corps, and now works as a Buyer at Killdeer Mountain Manufacturing. Throughout these years he’s served as a Sunday School Teacher, Youth Pastor, Battalion Lay Ministry Leader, Worship Leader, Community Group Leader, and lately Elder. Rob is extremely passionate about equipping the church to be on mission in Dickinson.

Matt Herron,

Youth pastor

Matt was raised in southeastern South Dakota by Christian parents who loved him and raised him up to serve and love Jesus.  That planted a foundation for his call into youth ministry.  Matt received his BS in Youth Ministry from Grace University (Omaha).  He served for 3 years as a youth pastor in Omaha before coming to Hillside (January 2014).

Matt’s passion is to see students not only give their lives to Jesus, but also to love and serve the body of Christ, becoming men and women faithful to the calling of Jesus Christ.  Outside of youth ministry, Matt loves spending time with his wife, Leah, their two sons, Caiden and Jacek, and their brand new girl, Blakeley (February 2, 2016)—and any pick up game of baseball, football, or soccer he can join in on.

Dave Miller,

Elder/lay pastor

I came to know the Lord in my teens; however, when I joined the Air Force I attended an NAB church where Pastor Willis Potratz became my mentor. He taught me the Scriptures, helping me to understand that I am alive in Christ. I served in the base chapel through my military career (22 years). I also worked with State Farm Insurance for 26 years. I have served Hillisde for 40 years and am open to serve where ever he leads.

My wife, Eileen, and I have three children, nine grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Through the years we have praised God for all his blessings, and he has kept us on our knees as he has seen us through many struggles. God is good!

Jeff Morton,

pastor of Discipleship

I was born in Oklahoma, but raised in California—where I accepted the Lord and was baptized (1962)—and I've worked among Muslims in Liberia and Guinea. I've taught in Thailand, Brazil, Pakistan—and California (Biola University). I'm excited God called us to serve at Hillside (November 2012). Debbie, a registered nurse and baker-of-goodness-in-every-loaf-of-her-bread, is my wife and our goal is to disciple believers in growing obedience to Jesus. I graduated from Vanguard University (B.A.), Talbot Seminary (MDiv.) and Biola University (DMiss). I really like sailing, shooting, carpentry, reading (especially Louie L’Amour) and spending time with our four adult children and six grandchildren.

Erv Vanveldhuizen,

elder/lay pastor

Erwin first trusted in Jesus when he as 10; however, his willingness to be a person with a desire to be more like Christ didn't take hold until the family moved to Dickinson. It was at that time he made a commitment to be a person that desired to emulate Christ.

Erwin and Marty were married in May of 1973 and have two children, Troy and Rachel. After 40 years of teaching public school Erwin retired. He enjoys being of serice to others. His desire is to see what God is at work and to join him there. Love God, love others, and serve the world.

Sunday School Superintendent,
